Eric Newman of Seneca Boards Custom Skis and Boards

Think Entrepreneurship had the opportunity to spend a day out at a ski, snowboard, and longboard manufacturing company located in Bozeman, Montana. The founder (Eric Newman) shared his entrepreneur story, advice for other young entrepreneurs, and things he's learned along the way.

Eric has always had a passion for skiing and creating his own boards to ride on. After years of experience on the slopes, he decided to go into the business of ski and board manufacturing. One of Eric's biggest challenges was acquiring an affordable board press for his business. The board presses can range from $100,000 on up. Eric knew he didn't have that kind of money, and began hitting the books. After hundreds of hours studying, talking with professors, and gathering information on the engineering that goes into making a press, he began creating his own. Eric's self studies of fluid mechanics and various other engineering principals enabled him to build his own press and tackle the project for just over $10,000.
