I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Matt McCune, founder of Autopilot, Inc. McCune's company specializes in product design, development, and manufacturing. Autopilot was founded in 2006. They help inventors and businesses take ideas from a simple concept to a finished product ready to sell on the market.
The moment I walked in the Autopilot facility, I noticed how fun, creative, and cool this company is. I was greeted by Matt, who slid down a firepole from the second floor to welcome me to his business. Not sure if it is just me, but any company with a fire pole seems pretty hip to me. Upon meeting Matt, we proceeded into the manufacturing area where they have many large milling machines, parts, and other manufacturing equipment. Everyone I met was so friendly and passionate about what they do at Autopilot.
Following the tour, Matt introduced me to the team that makes Autopilot possible. I got to meet the whole crew that has worked so hard to make Autopilot the fun, creative, and successful company that they are. Matt and I went into a conference room and chatted about how Autopilot came about. Matt was very exciting to talk with because he loves entrepreneurship, his business, helping others, the Autopilot family, and sharing his company's story. McCune originally started the business out of his home and bought a computer from Costco to get started. Before he knew it, he had 8 employees showing up for work in his home each day in a quiet little subdivision. In the video Matt shares a few fun stories about Autopilot's first few years which are both inspiring and interesting.
Autopilot has since moved into a very nice facility with areas designed for manufacturing, design, product development, and conference rooms for collaborating with the Autopilot team as well as business customers. Autopilot currently manages between 1500 to 2000 projects per year and is growing quickly. Matt was so appreciative of the help he has had along the way and of his Autopilot team. Without them, Autopilot wouldn't be anywhere. “They are the core of our business.”
