Entrepreneur Interview with Jeet Banerjee of StatFuse.com

Jeet Banerjee - Co-Founder StatFuse.comTell us about your Entrepreneurial Journey:

I’m a 19 year old entrepreneur, student, technology expert, and author who has a passion for solving problems. At the age of 17, I formed a web design company named JB Media Force and had over 10 designers / developers working under me to cater to my large clientele. Within a year and a half, I would sell the company and focus on a startup endeavor with a partner of mine.

What is this new startup you speak of?

The new startup is known as www.StatFuse.com which launched in early 2012. StatFuse is a unique solution to a problem that many high school students face. As a high school student getting ready to graduate, your biggest stress factor is finding a college that makes you and your parents happy. However, there are just too many mysteries about college, which make it extremely difficult on a high school student.

How does Statfuse help find high school graduates the right college?

StatFuse is an absolutely free web application that allows students to calculate their chances to get into any college, find colleges that fit their needs, get information about colleges (from how bad the parking is to how great the parties are), and much more useful information helping them choose the college that’s right for them. My partner & I came up with the idea when we were graduating high school and trying to make a decision for college. After applying to colleges, we had to wait almost 4 months hoping that one of our top choices would accept us and it was a nerve-wracking experience. Thus, we came up with the idea to instantly give students a percentage reflecting their chances of getting into a college before they even apply.

Do you have any investors in your business?

We are currently in the process of locking in an investment with a private investor, which will help us market and promote the company for the upcoming school year. Within a few weeks of launching, our company received more than 12,000 users without a dollar put into marketing. Our company caught the eyes of a few investors but we really liked what one of the investors brought to the table and ever since have been pursuing a deal with him. We are going to be signing the final papers and locking in the investment in the next few days.

What is your business model?

Our business is solely online based and we worked on the idea at our local Starbucks for almost 5 months before launching the website. I am all about finding solutions to problems people have and giving them a solution. I am extremely passionate about this idea because it is a problem that I faced not too long ago.

How has your business grown so quickly?

Our business started off as something that only our local friends knew about but after strategic promotion and media recognition, we have grown to become a nation-wide brand. We have many other big educational organizations that have been interested in advertising and partnering with us. We are continuously adding more features to the website which we feel can help students with the transition to college.

What is your favorite thing about being an entrepreneur?

My favorite thing about being an entrepreneur is knowing I am making a positive difference in the world. It’s not about the money or the glory, but rather solving problems. There are so many problems in the world today and all it takes is a simple solution to help make things better. It puts a smile on my face when I create a unique solution to something and someone tells me how much it helped them. That moment is simply priceless.
