Whenever we ask young Treps (today’s vernacular for “young entrepreneur”) what are the most important experiences that they have had in creating their venture – parental support is the first or second thing that they mention. How important is parental support to young entrepreneurs?
For many young entrepreneurs, getting their parents’ support for a new venture can make a huge difference – emotionally, practically and even financially. One of the most unfortunate – and most common – situations that young entrepreneurs face is a family that’s not supportive – or simply doesn't know how to help. While your friendships can be replaced, however reluctantly, your family cannot. Parents or siblings who do not understand, or simply refuse to support your entrepreneurial aspirations, can often be the breaking point for many early-stage entrepreneurs.
