You don’t have to cook entrees or bake brownies everyday (although if that’s what you love, I won’t stop you). Anything can be blogged about, from the way you cook to the type of food you cook, don’t limit yourself. Inspire a new generation of cooks with a basic guide on “How to Start Cooking” or do something more advanced, like creating video tutorials focused on making the perfect macaroons.

7. Travel

Here’s an idea for the person who loves to get up and go. Imagine traveling the world and getting paid to do it  – my friend Jackie does this full-time! Jackie is a great example of turning travel into a living. You don’t have to hike Machu Picchu to get followers, maybe your niche is finding the “locals” favorite spots to eat or locating underpopulated beaches to drink mimosas at. Heck, you don’t even have to travel the world, make your blog specific to the state/country you live in!

9. Reviewing

Get paid for your opinion. People buy products because reviewers tell them “these are good products and here is why.” However, it doesn’t have to just be products that you review. Maybe you love eating out? Start reviewing all the restaurants in your city, review the plays you go see, the movies you watch, or the book you read. Whatever you have an opinion about, let the world know.

Now that you have an idea to run with, here are some basics on how to start your blog and make money.

How to Start Your Blog

Build a website and start posting content regularly.  We recommend using Bluehost to get you up and running, it costs $7.99 a month and includes web-hosting, site builders, free web templates, a domain name, and an email address. Bluehost has great technical support and provides its customers with all the information they need to build a website themselves, without having to hire a second party.

How to Start Making Money

Affiliate marketing  is a quick and easy way to start making money off your blog. You earn a commission for every product you link on your blog that people purchase. No matter what idea you decide to go with, I can guarantee there will be some type of product that you can suggest for your readers to buy. Amazon is a great place to start, it’s completely free to sign up and with a few clicks you’ll be on your way.  Another option is an affiliate marketing broker called Shareasale, which provides links from all types of retailers including clothing, supplies, furniture, baby products – the list goes on and on.

Create your own products, relative to your website theme. If you decide to blog about health and fitness, you might create your own meal and exercise plan to sell to your readers. Maybe you decide to go with fashion advice, in which case, you might create a fashion guide or an eBook to sell. Whatever you are selling, from handmade cloth diapers to phone apps, you will want to use WooCommerce, Shopify, Gumroad, and/or Etsy to help generate sales.
